More than one hundred years went since race walking was born in nineteen centuries, with time gone, its rules and techniques have been perfected as well as the training levels improved .At now, the world record of male in 50km is 3:40:57, in 20km is 1:17:25. And the record of female in 20km is 1:26:52, in 10000m is 0:41:56:23. In Chinese universities and colleges, race walking was started in 1980s' . Twenty years went, many good scores have been achieved together with some questions and shortcomings according to the specialties of universities and colleges.To prepare for the 6th sports meeting of college and universities, PRC and the 8th track and field championship of colleges and universities, PRC. We organized 7-week-long training before competition. In order to correct some technical shortcomings such as unreasonable swing arms, bad stride length, stiff action et al., we executed some training means. First, helped the walkers to have correct concepts about the techniques of walking. Second, training them to have better flexibility and strength. In stamina training, we adopted different methods in different stages of training, amount of exercise changed from much to less while the intensity of exercise was just on the contrary. In the last week before competition we adjust the physical and psychological condition of athletes, so that they could be in their best when competed.Many coaches and competitors are agreed that it is important to observe and analyze the physical parameters of athletes in training and to adjust according to the results. In this paper, we measured the basal heart rate, the rate during and after exercise, the urine protein and other physical parameters. On the basis of the results, we judged whether the walkers were adapted to the loaded exercise and adjusted the training plans promptly. For the athletes entered for race walking in the 6th sports meeting of college and universities,PRC, we measured the heart rate, the urine protein and the ability of the body. For those in the 8th track and field championship of colleges and universities, PRC, we put more important on the heart rate and the urine protein.The sharper the competition, the more importance are attached to the mental training either by coaches or athletes. Some walkers in our team had little experience about contests and attended to have troubles in matches. To settle these issues, we put importance on the training of mentality of the athletes, such as the ability to adapt to judges, athletic arena, climate, atmosphere of competition and the ability to resolve the unexpected issues. In one word, tried to avoid the influence of extra matters as more as possible.With all these efforts above, the athletes entered for race walking in the 6th sports meeting of college and universities, PRC were all in best six. For special female, one silver medal in 10000m, the record is 0:46:05, the 6th in 5000m, the record is 22:56:46. For common male, the 4th in 10000m, the record is 44:08:75, the 5th in 20000m, the record is 1:35:31. For common female, both the 6th in 5000m and 10000m, the records are 24:27:20 and 0:50:41.All these demonstrated that training before competition is an essential stage in the whole period. As far as race walking is concerned, we can better the techniques and improve the abilities through reasonable training before competition.
