During the reform of science education, people gradually realized the importance of scientific inquiry in cultivating students' scientific diathesis. Under the guidance of humanistic psychology, constructivism psychology , science education theory and physics education theory ,the thesis discusses the necessity and the feasibility of cultivating the students' ability of scientific inquiry in physics instruction in middle school, based on the reality of science education in our country. The questionnaire method, interviews with experts method and theory analysis method are used to draw an education project, and a preliminary discussion on which is done by educational practice.The thesis is composed of five parts. In the foreword, it introduces the social background and the practical meaning for cultivating the students' ability of scientific inquiry in physics instruction in middle school . The working in this field done by foreigners is also mentioned in this part. In the second part, the basic theory on science education and psychology is expatiated systematically, so does the theory's instructive meaning for this thesis. It also discusses the didactical base for cultivating the students' ability of scientific inquiry in physics instruction in middle school. In the third part, the connotation of the ability of scientific inquiry is discussed. According to this, the targets and the principles in physics instruction are also being put forward. In the fourth part, the cultivating way and modes are discussed thoroughly. Because of the limitation of the time, only one mode is chosen to be practised during one term in middle school. Both the process and the conclusions are discussed in the last part.
