In view of the problems existing in English teaching of secondary vocational schools, such as the students' low English levels, the present English teaching methods which can't arouse the students' interest in English learning and ignore the students' main position in teaching process. After making a careful analysis on the factors which influence the English teaching in secondary vocational schools , such as the goals of secondary vocational education, the features of English as a second language for secondary vocational school students and its teaching aims, the factors influencing the students' English learning, the quality of the English teachers and the teaching material,etc. The author put forward cooperative teaching method.In order to verify the results of the method, the author made an experimental study in Deyang Economy School for two terms. She classified the students into three levels according to their English performance and established cooperative teams of four, in which the members are different from each other in aspects of character,organizing ability, self-discipline and study habbits besides their different English levels. The results are as the followings:1. It creates an atmosphere which attracts the students' attention to take part in the activities positively in English class , prompts their interest and makes them take a correct attitude towards English learning.2. It provides the students a lot of opportunities to practise communicating with each other in English and develops the students' communicative competence effectively.3. It lets the students play an important part and become the main participants in teaching activities.4. It's effective in improving the students' rudimentary knowledge of English . Cooperative teaching is loved and highly valued by most of the students in theexperimental group.
