In Today's China Problem Of Suicide Among Rural Women

China is the only country in which the woman's suicide rate is higher than the man's . And in today's China , most of the suicide-committing women are the rural women who are the 94.11% of all Chinese suicidal women or the 52.45% of the whole world's . And the Chinese rural women are a silent group which has been ignored by the main media and the research bodies all the time . The government has rarely paid attention to them-who has paid more attention to the growth of GDP in the present economic tide.Suicide is the universal problem faced by the whole mankind , and "there hasn't been a society in which there is no suicide so far ." Man has kept researching the phenomena of suicide , and the scholars-ancient and modern , Chinese and foreign-have studied suicide from different subject angles , and have gained abundant achievements , and the most eminent representatives of which are the researches of Durkheim's and Freud's . In today's China , the first suicide-preventing and crisis-interfering symposium held in Nanjing in December , 1992 , marked that the forbidden area was broken , and that the research question was approved by the relevant authorities ; and the establishment of the Chinese Special Crisis-interfering Committee of the Committee of Psychological Hygiene in 1994 means the formal opening to the scientific researching area.This thesis specially probes into the suicide of the present Chinese rural women which has seldom been paid attention to so far , and it is divided into four parts : the first part briefly introduces the principal theoretical achievements of suicide which have been gained from different subject angles ; the second part describes the present suicide situation of Chinese rural women from its characteristics , types and consequences ; the third part mainly analyzes the present suicide state of Chinese rural women from sociological macroscopic view ; and the fourth part puts forward several proposals for the suicide prevention of the present Chinese rural women .Suicide is undoubtedly a very complex matter which involves sociology , psychology , ethics , biology and the medical science etc.. To reveal the secrets of suicide , there is still a long way before man . The matter of the suicide of the present Chinese rural women has both the special causes of its own and the common causes of the whole mankind society. This thesis tries hard , on the basis of facts and of the theoretical fruits achieved up to now , to discuss and to analyze the suicide of the present Chinese rural women from the sociological angle , and puts forward some ideas for its prevention .
