Nowadays, the mental health condition of chinese undergraduate students becomes increasing important. Social anxiety disorder, a prevalent impairing and chronic condition, afflicts many students. This study is to compare the effects of two interventional methods: group - based behavioral intervention and cognitive behavioral inlercention. The thesis includes five parts:Part One: The Review of Social Anxiety: The literature on social phobia is reviewed in this part. Social anxiety disorder has undergone considerable diagnostic evolution to reach its present form. Many interventional skills based on respective theories have been developed, of which behavioral intervention, cognitive - behavioral intervention and group intervention have gained more concern. It is consensus that the effect of cognitive - behavioral intervention is better than that of the behavioral intervention, and the group treatment is an effective intervention too.Part Two: The Value of This Study: It is reported that social anxiety is one of the severe psychological problems in the undergraduate students both home and abroad. There are shortcomings in its definition, method, evaluation and skills of social anxiety research in China. Thus, this study, based on overcoming the existed limitations to investigate a more effective method to improve the social anxiety condition of the undergraduate students, is valueable.Part Three: The Experimental Arrangement and Operation: The experimental , which is to compare the effects of two group - based intervention meth-ods,uses the one element complete randomlized design model.22participants, selected from a pool of 84 undergraduate students with willingness to improve their interpersonal relationship and diagnosed sufferers of social anxiety by the assessnenl of SAL), are randomly assigned to two groups . Then they are respectively intervented by the group - based behavioral intervention and the group - based cognitive - behavioral intervention for 8 sessions, 1 month. The Results, assessed by 4 scales (SCL - 90 SAD ATQ EPQ) and a self - made rating scale, show that two interventional methods both significantly improve the social anxiety conditions of participants, but there is no significant differece between their effects.Part Four: Discussion: The reasons of no significant difference between two groups, the group treating mechanism, the characterastics of the supervisor , the shortages of this study and recommendations for future research are all discussed.Part 5: Conclusion: These two based - group interventional methods both improve the mental condition of participants with social anxiety. there is no significant differece effects between them, which may show that the effects of social anxiety intervention mainly come from the common functional factors brought by the group special mechaninsm, rather than their respetive procedures.
