Facing the serious challenge that the practice of middle school new geography curriculum has brought to the teachers, this essay suggests that the teacher's role should be changed accordingly. The teacher's role should be of variety.First of all, this essay deals with the basic understanding to the teacher's role, analyzes the teacher's role in traditional teaching and meanwhile shows the new idea to the teacher's role according to the demand of the new geography curriculum. Then, a survey and analysis are made to the problems existing in the locating of geography teacher's role, taking geography teachers of Changchun as an example. This essay analyzes the results of the survey, by means of collecting answer sheets, in the following four aspects: the understanding and acceptance of geography teachers to the new curriculum, observing the problems existing in the teacher's role changing from the way in which they now teach, from the use of way in which they evaluate their students' studies, the extent at which middle school geography teachers understand the important contents of the teacher's role. The result shows that facing the great revolution carried out by the country in curriculum and textbooks of elementary education, the majority possess the idea of role changing in carrying out the new geography curriculum, but quite a lot of teachers are not well prepared for this and thus they still have one-sided views in their minds or their ideas towards education are not suitable.
