Migrant workers have come into being for about 20 years. To date, they step from being disorder to being order, from being sparse to being centered, from migrant state to dwelling state, from loose group to organization, from being unnoticed to being focused on…As time goes by, migrant workers exist and develop in a collective or group way. But not enough attention and study has been given to that new state. That is why this article chooses group as study unit. What's more, this new group is in awkward state (dislocation of status i.e.) which is unfair to the group itself and harmful to social and economic development. Thus this dissertation centers on the status of migrant workers. It points out that the dislocation of this group is the comprehensive result of factors of power, psychology and speech etc. The dislocation of status means its vaguely legal position together with its marginally social position is unharmonious with its intermediary functional or professional position. In another word, speaking from the functional perspective, the group of migrant workers has made great contributions for the development of economy and society. But when looking in the perspective of law, the group hasn't gotten legal position (it has improved to some degree in some official articles recently); when looking in the perspective of resources distribution, the group has always been on the edge of the city system.Based on detailed analysis of the state of status, the dissertation clears that dislocation of status is to result in role strain. The role strain will lead to ill effect upon the development of economy and society. Moreover, as the group has so many traits, the traits may make the case more serious. When the strain is expressed, large- scale -effect, model- effect and net-effect will appear. So to adjust the dislocation of its status is of great urgency and importance. That is the destination of this article. It is stated in the dissertation that to adjust the dislocation of status policy-maker, migrant workers themselves and any other social member should co-operate well. The new situation and new task provides the group with good chance as well as great challenge. Up to now, our government has acknowledged this problem and tried to take some measures to solve it. The group has been improved in the field of migration, political power, employment, education and social insurance. But there are still many unsatisfied points, e.g. the narrow thinking way, non-comprehensive policy designation, transformation problem during the course of implementation, limited merits on study. The last but not the least, the dissertation makes a prophecy that the group of migrant workers would exist in a long future time, its intermediary function would be more obvious, its dislocation problem would be solved little by little. But with development of economy and society, the group as a conceptional group would back to the historic stage after it finishes its historical task. Certainly, there is a long way to go and a lot to do.Different from study which takes individual or district group as study unit, this dissertation takes conceptional group as unit, which neglects individual or district difference, and manages to appeal more attention and care to the group by emphasizing its group effect; different from rough or single perspective study on status, this dissertation makes multiple angle research of the group's status, thus more comprehensive and deep knowledge has been provided; different from simple outline of this group, this dissertation makes a prophecy of its future state. Still, different from conservative explanation, this dissertation criticizes reality as well as theory. Critical spirits is obvious. All these are the efforts to make innovations.
