Writing which is an essential method improving students' qualities, plays an important role in the area of Chinese teaching. People have made consistent efforts on the instruction of writing and achieved a lot since long ago. However, it can't be overlooked that it is the worst part of Chinese teaching. Therefore, in the light of Chinese curriculum 2001, the thesis will make an exploration on how to foster and improve students' writing competence through the instruction of writing.The thesis consists of there parts.Part One, On the ability of writing. In this part, the connotations, characters and component of writing ability are defined respectively. What's more, the characters and component of writing ability which have changed because of the new educational situation, are explained from two perspectives. One is traditional context, the other is from the view of new curriculum.Part Two, The present conditions of writing teaching in middle schools and reflection on it. Firstly, the thesis analyses the conditions of the instruction of teaching from six aspects. Secondly, it points out that such conditions are related to traditional culture, modern scientism idea about curriculum and contemporary culture of the society.Part Three, The cultivation of students' writing ability in the light of the new curriculum. This part is the core of the whole thesis. It is mainly about how to improve students' writing ability through the renovation of teachers' teaching ideas and strategies. Also, the renovation of points out that the instruction of writing should put emphasis on arousing students' interest and confidence in writing, developing their personalities and fostering their ability of language and thinking.
