All of these days, teaching of composition has been like a fortress that difficult to be captured in Chinese teaching, the reason is that it has always been in the contradiction between its characteristics and exam-oriented education's ignorance of these characteristics. Just like a natural uplifting mountain, teaching of composition need internal motivation and years of accumulation, it is a well-grounded system project. However, under the action of exam-oriented education, students have to do the endless homework, and do not have much time for expanding reading as well as for accumulation of life experience and perception. In order to pass examinations, they always choose to participate in temporary composition training or recite several model essays to emergency. These articles usually lack of fresh feelings and individual characters, but with modeling features.To reverse this situation, The Chinese Curriculum Standards puts new demands on composition teaching. The writing should be individual, students should strive to express their unique felling and truly experience about natural, social and life. Thus, the individual composition teaching is a necessary requirement of curriculum reform. Basis on the analysis of secondary school students'current writing status and the domestic and international trends in composition education reform, this paper points out that individual writing is the development needs of the times, and elaborates the basic features of individual writing. It also carries theoretical discussion on individual writing, specifies its necessity and possibility. Finally it focuses on students' individual writing capacity-building strategies.
