Objectives to find out the psychological state ,major problems and the influencial factors of the middle nursing students and to set up an effective method for psychological education.Methods This study has been conducted at a middle nursing school in Changzhi city ,Shanxi province, China,consisted of baseline survey and intervention experiment .The subject includes 708 freshmen of the 2003th year, who were sampled by cluster sampling . Baseline survey were performed through sympotom checklist 90(SCL-90), coping strategies questionnaire(CSQ),social support rating scale(SSRS)and questionnaire made by myself .Intervention experiment targeted the students whose scores of interpersonal sensitivity are equal to or more than three fen ,and set up a way to help them improve their mental health through social psychology education.Data analysis were performed through EXCEL and SAS software,using the method of T—test and multiple regression analysis.Results the major results of baseline are as follows:the average scores of the students in the SCL—90 is not only significantly higher than that of ordinary middle school students in all aspects ,but also higher than that of the freshmen of 98th year in aspects of total scores ,somatization,obssession,interpersonality sensativity,depression,phobia. Through comparision,we found the most serious problems are interpersonality sensativity,obssession,hostility and bigot. Through multi—factor analysis,we found coping methods, social support style ,family's location and students' kind etc,all can affect their mental health state. Besides,their mental health state can also affect their coping methods and social support style. the major results of intervention experiment are as follows:the mental health level of students in intervention group was improved. Through self-matching test, the scores of intervention group on obsession,interpersonality sensativity,anxiety decrease significantly (P<0.05)。.the coping methods of students in intervention group was improved. Through self-matching test, the scores of intervention group on negative coping decrease significantly (P<0.05)。the social support styles of students in intervention group was improved. Through self-matching test, the scores of intervention group on total scores of social support ,subjective support and support utilization increase significantly (P<0.05)。Conclusions The psychological state of the nursing students is not optimical , their coping methods, social support style etc,all can affect their mental health state. psychological education for students is effective.
