On The Academic Morality

Academic research is considered holy and serious. A healthy and productive environment for learning as well as outstanding academic achievements plays a fundamental role in cultivating the public mind of being rational and notions of right or wrong, advancing a nation's cultural cause and moral standard. It's the public opinion that credits true scholars as men of great learning and spokesmen of truth. These scholars distinguish themselves as a group with special mission, good quality and high moral standard. They should fight for the destiny and development of all rather than personal interests. It's the academic pursuit that they take as life of lives, as "social conscience" and guardian of our fundamental values.The so-called "academic ethics" refers to moral corrections and principles which are developed within the academic circle and followed in their academic activities, and whose exercise and maintenance mainly depend on scholars' conscience and public opinions within the academic world . It's the product of long-term academic practice, whose characteristics defines moral ethics as being professional, self-restrained and instructive.A system of moral corrections, the essence of academic ethics, constitutes the key part in individualizing academic ethics, and in evaluating a scholar's moral standards. It mainly includes:Devotion to science; Serving the public good. Seeking truth from facts; Faith in truth. Powerful creativity; Always ready to explore. Respect for other's labor and their rights. Be objective and just in academic evaluation.Under the current strategy of prospering the country with science and education, the academic world presents before us a promising mainstream picture, in which many scholars pursue their research with a scientific and rigorous approach, shouldering the mission of inheriting and disseminating our civilization, of booming the academic world . However, with the widespread influence of utilitarianism, the academic world is being infected by torturing viruses such as plagiarism, fabrication and some other misconduct. Therefore, it's our task to build up an academic world to restore the purity of the academic world by reinforcing penalties on academic misconduct.
