ABSTRACT: Chinese is one of the basic required courses for all majors of students in five-year advanced vocational college. Chinese teaching plays an important role in improving students' political quality, scientific and cultural quality, learning other courses well, forming comprehensive vocational and creative abilities and further studying. In fact, however, Chinese teaching taking up most of class periods is not paid enough attention, and doesn' t play an exact part in teaching. There are many problems in classroom teaching and extensive reading that is in the situation, with wasting time and effecting little. It does harm to the cultivation of reading ability, to the improving of the students' cultural quality, and to the construction of their perfect personality. As a result, people must pay full attention to it, which should be changed. The present study analyses the problems such as students' opinions , students' quality, teaching practice, teaching research and vocational guidances, etc. The present study suggests ways to solve the problems in the way of combining humanism and pragmatism.
