| The new English curriculum criteria for high schools (2001) set learning strategies as one main goal for elementary courses. It is not only helpful for students to improve their learning efficiency and lighten their learning burden, but also able to enhance the quality of education and teaching if we English teachers can teach students how to learn and make use of some effective learning strategies. There are many different kinds of English learning strategies and different people may use different strategies, which can be used in different periods, on different occasions or under different circumstances. This essay surveys the application frequency of English learning strategies of middle school students in cities and in villages and towns; compares the results of the survey; analyzes some possible factors of influencing the application frequency; and discusses how to train English learning strategies for students from different areas. It's hoped that students can efficiently use English learning strategies to improve their learning efficiency and develop their ability of self-study and that English teachers can pay closer attention to the research into language learning strategies so as to increase the overall teaching quality. |
