China is one of the four countries with an ancient civilization in the world. During the long history, our ancestors have made giant material and spiritual achievements, preserving immense historical relics. Also in Chinese modern history, for the existence and development of Chinese nation the people with high ideals have waged an unremitting struggle and exploration, leaving immense revolutionary relics. Cultural relics is a materialized development history of Chinese nation, an important carrier of splendid Chinese civilization, a spiritual tie of union. The great Chinese national spirit, centered on patriotism, such as union, peace-love, diligence, bravery, unceasing efforts to become stronger, is fully reflected in the abundant cultural relics.Cultural relics, remains of material and spiritual civilization in history, have artistic historical, scientific value as well as economic and educational value. However, because of the lack of national cultural relic consciousness, many cultural relics are not effectively protected, even destroyed on purpose. How can they be protected and exploited effectively and rationally? The key is to enhance the whole nation's cultural relic consciousness and carry out education of cultural relic consciousness. First, we should foster the cultural relic consciousness of the youth who are forming their value and world outlook. Historical curriculum in middle schools has its special advantage and it is our task to foster the students' cultural relic consciousness. And this educational process benefits historical teaching in middle schools and embodies the value of history education.Nowadays the reform of historical curriculum in middle schools is catching on like fire throughout the country. Education of cultural relic consciousness embodies the aim of reform of historical curriculum because it is one part of quality education. Education of cultural relic consciousness is useful to enrich the resources of historical curriculum, promote the development of school-based curriculum and launch research study. Therefore we should engage in education of cultural relic consciousness.
