Visual thinking is studied and clarified in later period of 20th century by the American Germany lineage art psychologist Rudolf Arnheim. He believed that vision Is the essential means as to thinking, and that the two parts are united. We can clarify his so-called visual thinking in this way, that is, by the means of vision, according to the unit of visual image, it is a kind of thinking activities interacted by vision, imagination and composition. Here visual image concludes the direct feeling image, memory image and imagination image that is also called psychology image.This paper mainly talks about how to improve students' abilities of using visual thinking to deal with physical problems in senior physics teaching, by means of observing imagining and composing the interaction of these three visual activities, training and developing students' rational function of vision, and educating their visual thinking habit.In the teaching practice of strengthening students' visual thinking, Arnheim emphasized the importance of setting up students' visual image bank and demonstrated that every kind of thinking, especially creative thinking is operated through images.Therefore, paying attention to the training of students' visual thinking abilities is very important for the improvement of students' creativity.
