Job burnout is the focus of study on occupation health psychology. Burnout has been found to be common in teachers. The negative symptoms are harmful to both students and teachers. So it is important to do something in this field. The purpose of the present study was to examine the status of middle school teachers' job burnout in rural area in Hebei province, and to explore the relationship between role perception, career commitment and job burnout. The present study was to provide data and references for the studies of job burnout, and supply some theoretical explanation and methodological guidance about the precaution and interference of teachers' job burnout.The present dissertation included 2 parts. In the first part, we developed a scale of teachers' burnout based on the theory of MBI and some individual interviews with teachers. In the second part, we discussed the status of burnout in middle school teachers in rural area in Hebei province, and the relationship between role perception, career commitment and burnout by descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis of variance, correlation analysis and path analysis. 738 teachers were selected in 15 middle schools in the rural areas of Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Tangshan, Cangzhou and Chengde using stratified cluster sampling. Three Scales including Teachers' Burnout Scale, Role Perception Scale, and Career Commitment Scale for Teachers were used for our research.The major findings were as below:1. The reliability and validity of our developed Teachers' Burnout Scale which including three subscales of emotional exhaustion (9 items), reduced personal accomplishment (8 items) and depersonalization (5 items) were well accepted.2. The level of middle school teachers' job burnout in rural area in Hebei province was not high;the levels of depersonalization (2.39) and reduced personal accomplishment (2.16) were low;the level of emotional exhaustion was in the middle(3.00) ,3. Teachers' burnout significantly differed between female teachers and maleteachers (F=6.578, p<0.05).4. There were significantly positive relations between role perception and burnout(r=;0.636). Career commitment was negatively related to burnout(r=-0.338). Role perception was negatively related to career commitment(r=-0.277).5. Career commitment directly influenced burnout, and the influence of role perception on burnout were partly mediated by career commitment.
