The prophase of Republic of China was a crucial period for educational development in modern Chinese education history. In the short 15 years from 1912 to 1927, some educationalists who were back from Europe or USA, with the advanced members of national Education Circle in view of continuous dogfights among militarists and the Northern Warlord government's not considering the circumstances of education, organized and established many education groups , and undertook the task of developing education under the guiding ideology — "saving the nation by education".They did a lot to develop Chinese education, such as inviting European or American famous scholars to give lectures, launching educational publications, and doing educational researchers and experiments. Under the active push of education groups, in this period, an unprecedented educational reform began in our nation. With the tireless efforts of education groups and educators, Chinese educational system had fulfilled the transformation from tradition to modernization, and formed basic format of Chinese modern education eventually.This thesis is about the historical exploration of education groups in the prophase9Republic of China, consisting of six parts:In the first part, it mainly introduces the significance, current situation, methods of this issue and defines the related concepts.In the second part, it analyzes the historical background of the birth of education groups which were in the prophase of Republic of China, describes their development and introduces the primary ones of them.In the third part, it assorts the types of education groups in this period and summarizes their characteristics.In the fourth part, it descrides the main historical activities of education groups in the prophase of Republic of China.In the fifth part, it discusses the historical function of education groups in four aspects: sino-foreign countries' educational intercourse, education ideas, education development and educational system, at last it points out that the activities of education groups accelerated education modernization in that period of our country.In the sixth part, it mainly makes a brief historical description-evaluation on the guiding ideology "saving the nation by education" of education groups in the prophase of Republic of China.
