Yung Wing is a famous patriot and educator in modern China and is known as the“Father of Overseas Chinese Students”.He is one of the most important figures in the history of modern Chinese development.As the first person,who receives complete education in the West obtaining the bachelor's degree and the doctoral degree,he devoted himself to the education of modern China and created a precedent for modern China to save the country through education based on his unique experience.This report mainly uses the literature analysis method,the historical analysis method and the class analysis method to discuss the thoughts and practice process of saving the nation by education of Yung Wing.The thoughts and practice process of saving the nation by education of Yung Wing has experienced the sprout,development,transition,and sublimation.The formation of the thoughts of saving the nation by education of Yung Wing is influenced by complex international and domestic environments.At the beginning of the 19th century,the capitalist economy in the United States prospered and developed,on the basis,religious forces continued to penetrate outwardly and church schools began to impact on traditional Chinese education methods.Under this background,Yung Wing accepted the relatively advanced Western capitalism education at the time.In contrast,during the 19th century Chinese political rule was feudal and decadent,the education development was slow,and the national crisis was increasingly serious.China and the United States have formed a very different contrast and the impact of reality.In this context,the American missionaries Bao Liuyun became the enlightenment of Yung Wing,Bao liuyun's education concept and the spirit of Christianity have profoundly influenced Yung Wing's spiritual world.After fully accepting Western modern higher education,Yung Wing decided to return to China and change the backward face of China.The theory of Yung Wing has rich content and has undergone difficult practical exploration.Unlike the feudal scholars of the same period,the purpose of his education to save the country was not to save the Qing Dynasty,but to cultivate talents for the all-round development of morality,intelligence,and physical integrity and to build a modern New China.He has always upheld patriotism,adhered to the concept of capitalist education,advocated that women should receive equal education,and advocated and organized education for studying abroad,established a new education model,established industrial schools,and conducted technical education.Yung Wing's thoughts of saving the nation by education has its own historical value:First,it conveys a new trend of civilized development;The second is to promote the training of various new practical talents;The third is to promote the development of the modernization of Chinese education;Fourth,it has strengthened cultural exchanges between China and the West.However,there are also limitations.For example,he does not understand the main contradictions and solutions in modern Chinese society,and he wants to rely solely on education to save the country;In the practice of education to save the country,he focused on Western studies and relatively diluted secondary schools;No asset level jumped out.In spite of this,Yung Wing's thoughts of saving the country by education has important implications for the development of education in modern and contemporary China,namely:paying attention to cultivating students'patriotic feelings,improving students'comprehensive quality,discerning Chinese and Western cultures,and promoting civilized exchanges and mutual learning.
