Now the basic curriculum reform in education is carrying out in China. The inquiry teaching has gained wide recognize and appreciation of educational experts and professors after its appearance in China. As we all know, to carry out inquiry teaching in mathematics will be a huge challenge for our traditional ideas and ways. The research on inquiry teaching has been a hot topic in the field of basic education. This article is about a research of inquiry teaching in the light of mathematics open problems.Open problems is a new thing for Chinese mathematics education. Although its educational value has been recognized widely, there are many respects have not been resolved successfully. For example, what is the effect of open-problems in inquiry teaching actually? What difficulties will the students meet when they solve the open problems? How can we design reasonable teaching pattern? The article will make a thorough and careful discussion form theory and practice.Firstly we discussed the value of open problems in the light of the need of carrying out the inquiry teaching. Then we make a practice research ,the first step is a open problem test, and we make a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the test result, the second step we make a survey, by statistics analysis, we probe the influence according to the survey results. And we give some advice about teaching conception, teaching design, teaching way etc. On the base of research we design a teaching pattern on mathematics open problems. At the same time, we give some typical teaching cases.
