Educating People, Constructing The Harmonious Campus

The Fourth Plenary Session of the 16th Communist Party Central Committee put forward the strategic target of constructing the harmonious socialist society , On the basic understanding of the connotations of the above notion, the author of thesis tentatively proposes the notion of constructing harmonious universities for China's higher education. The advocacy of this notion is in response not only to the call of building a harmonious socialist society, but also to the call of building harmonious university in accordance with the harmonious socialist society. The 4th article of the Law of The People's Republic of China on Higher Education says,"Higher education must carry out the guidelines for China's education, serve the needs of socialist modernization, be integrated with productive labor, and train socialist builders and successors who are well developed morally, intellectually, and physically."Therefore, higher education should aim to promote people's development in an all-around way. However, how can higher education fulfill that purpose? The answer should be by way of cultivating people as the foundation, without the strict adherence to which, the purpose of higher education would be impossible to realize. This thesis approaches the construction of harmonious universities from the perspective of"cultivating people as the foundation". Although there have been quite a few fruitful researches on how to cultivate people, it is a new perspective to combine that with the building of harmonious universities. The aim of this thesis is to provide measures on how to realize the overall harmonious and sustainable development of universities so as to achieve the aim of cultivating people in an all-around way, which will reinforce the construction of the harmonious socialist society intellectually.
