How to bring up talents to meet the needs of modern society? Development of teachers'professional standards, research capabilities, and the quality of moral is the key. This paper, based on exploring the professional ways of teachers'development, researches Tao Xingzhi's idea of"teaching oneself with what he teaches others".The paper , from three main aspects ,researches Tao Xingzhi's idea of"teaching oneself with what he teaches others". The author thinks that the formation and development of Tao Xingzhi's idea had been going through four stages : (1) Eliminating the separation of teaching and studing and calling for the idea of"teachng oneself with what he teaches others". (2) Combining the teaching , studying and dong into one and putting forward the idea of"teach oneself with what he teaches others". (3) Introducing the practice of"Little Teacher"to"teach himself with what he teaches others". (4) Promoting the creation of education and taking the idea of"teaching oneself with what he teaches others"as the premise of teaching talents.The ideological content of"teaching oneself with what he teaches others"is the main part of this paper which interpres Tao's idea from the angle of modern teaching . There are mainly four aspects : (1)To learn before to teach. It is to study on teachers'learning for research and students'active learning . (2)To learn for teaching .It is to study on the contents and methods of which the teachers learn ,based on students'needs. (3) Learning when teaching is the process for teachers to accumulate capitals and to form individualized teaching methods . (4) Making teachers themselves as students'models.The significance of the idea of"teaching oneself with what he teaches others"in reality. In this paper, the idea is a strategic measure to promote teachers'professional development and specifically embodied in the following three aspects : (1) Teachers are no longer just teachers, but become researchers. (2) Teachers are not just educators, but life-long learners. (3) Teachers are no longer pedants, but practitioners.
