The author makes research of female sex workers (FSWs) who provide sexual services, regarding them as a cultural organization. Since the sexual industry is situated underground, this group of people is highly invisible and their flow very extensive. Accordingly, this article focuses on the research of their mobility.Firstly, FSWs are one of the floating populations and share the same characteristics. The reasons for their engaging in commercial sex are not simply the process of moral degenerating. To a great extent, their change of occupation is just a "smooth shift". This article is tended to give a comprehensive illustration and analysis of the process of how they come into sexual industry, their flow inside the industry and in daily life between their hometown and recreational venues as well. Secondly, this move has its governing principles and is not an individual profile, which suggests that we must take the economic, social and cultural factors into consideration as the context. On the basis of field work in Y county, Sichuan province and X county, Guangxi province, Chinese women who offer commercial sexual service are classified into two types, one inland FSWs and another trans-boundary FSWs. Classification is the foundation upon which the organization and mobility of FSWs can be known well and the analysis would be more meaningful. At last, FSWs is not just a marginal group, but also a group of high risk, i.e. infecting venereal disease and AIDS. Therefore, the research team makes some effective suggestions about the prevention and intervention of venereal disease and AIDS, aiming at applying anthropology to practical use.
