As a prerequisite to teachers' professional development, teachers' practical knowledge is the knowledge they accumulate and apply in their teaching practice, including how they treat the students, how they consider the communication between students and them, how they look on their teaching activities, how they think about themselves and so on. Paying attention to teachers' practical knowledge reflects the requirement of the independence of teachers' professional development.In this paper, the author takes herself as an example to study the content of teachers' practical knowledge and the way to improve it. What has made this research exploratory and constructive is that the teacher herself is the researcher rather than the one to be studied as usual.This paper can be divided into six parts:Chapter One serves as an introduction, where the author shows how the topic comes into her sight, what significance the research has, and what method will be employed in the research.Chapter Two defines the core concept used in the research after discussing the meaning of knowledge and practice, reveals the implication and characteristics of teachers' practical knowledge. A survey of the relational research, domestic or overseas, is also given.Chapter Three focuses on the content of teachers' practical knowledge. By following the procedure of " narrating a case; reflection and analysis; giving explanation" , the author examines her practical knowledge, including how she looks on the students, how she considers the communication between the students and her, how she thinks about Chinese teaching, and how she realizes self development.Chapter Four reveals the ways for a teacher to improve his practical knowledge, namely, analyzing one's life history, understanding one's working context, self-reflection, comprehending the relational metaphors, examining different reactions in typical circumstances and so on.Chapter Five proposes some suggestions to the in-service teachers, schools and teacher training authorities.The epilogue states the researcher's personal experience during the process of the research.
