In the tide of reform, the new third- phase maths textbook of the required education, published by Hebei Education Press, has been used for a experimental turn(from the fall of 2003 to the fall of 2006).In the process of using the new textbook, teachers and students express different opinions about its compilation, commenting on its success and shortcomings. Then, what is the real effect of the part"probability and statistics"? With this question in mind, the author carries on a research by mainly applying the method of surveying.I. Devise teachers'survey to know sth. about the compilation of the textbook, facts about students'learning(their interest, study level and study ability), and facts about teachers'teaching and training.II. Survey the students from two aspects: A. focus on their cognitive structure: a. the basic use of statistical amount and statistical consciousness. b. the ability to gain information from the statistical graphs or charts. c. the ability to gain data information and applying it. d. gathering, sorting and handling data in practical problems. e. fair code and simple probabilistic calculation. From the above survey we first get the evaluation framework of cognitive structure, which is helpful to teaching practice. B. focus on their knowledge accomplishment. We test three grades of students with equally difficult test-paper so as to know how the students have grasped the knowledge.III. Analyze the test-papers of entrance examinations to secondary school in different areas to learn about final evaluation of students'study and the development of the course reform. After analyzing the survey the author gets the success and shortcomings in using the new textbook, and gets related conclusion about the students'study and teacher's teaching. Thus the author finds the direction for further study.
