National Defense Education (NDE) relates to the national defenseconstruction and national security. China has 5000 years history ofcivilization and a good tradition of national defense education. Newsituations and problems occurred in college national defense education asthe number of college students increased and domestic and internationalcircumstance changed in recent years. In particular, it has becomeincreasingly severe that some university students are lack of nationaldefense moral feeling, which challenges university national defenseeducation. It is very urgent that initiatives should be taken to face thechallenge and the problems in national defense education for universitystudents. The paper includes some research based on the status in quo ofthis problem.The paper is divided into five parts. Part one is an introduction toselection of the research topic, status in quo of research, research methods,and the significance and innovations of this research. Part two coversgeneral contents of national defense moral education for universitystudents: 1) Self-esteem and self-confidence education for the love ofone's nation; 2) honor or disgrace education for inspiration of one'semotion; and 3) education of the preparation for crisis in times of safetyfor the sake of the country. In Part three I suggested four fundamentalprinciples for strengthening national defense and moral education forundergraduates: 1) Compatibility of thoughts and amusement; 2)Compatibility of nonce and future; 3) Compatibility of consciousness andcompulsion; and 4) Compatibility of nationality and internationalism. InPart four five effective approaches of national defense moral educationfor undergraduate students were innovated: 1) strengthen the drill toenrich national defense moral cognition; 2) create an atmosphere tosublimate the national defense moral feeling; 3) build platforms to create diverse patterns of national defense education; 4) practice to reinforce thefoundation of national defense moral education; and 5) create morechannels and use a variety of resources for national defense education.Part five is the conclusion.Main innovations of the paper include: 1) the point of view of theresearch topic was unique. I studied the problems in national defenseemotion of university students of the present time with a view to theirmoral emotion, and explored the principles and approaches to solve theseproblems; 2) some theoretical innovation. Four general principles ofundergraduate students' national moral education were summarized onbasis of past research. These principles are comparatively comprehensiveand systemic, and suitable for status in quo of university students'national moral education, especially the principle of compatibility ofnonce and future and the principle of compatibility of nationality andinternationalism; and 3) breakthroughs in practice. Five effectiveapproaches were found in the process of university students' nationaldefense moral education, especially the way of building platforms tocreate diverse patterns and the way of creating more channels and using avariety of resources are rather innovative.
