| This thesis focuses my search of the Eastern culture, and using my life experience of living in the Asian urban landscape a basic resource. This research will be my starting point, with which I would like to convey my impression of contemporary life in today's Asia, my analysis and discussion of it.As Asian cities modernize, the urban landscapes had lost its once glorious appearance, and the dominance of contemporary culture is leading our lives to converge. In the first section, I will discuss my reaction to such change, and the influence of a developing material culture on people. In the second section, I will use my own understanding of "estrangement" and "disharmony" as the key terms, and focusing on the various phenomena of estrangement and disharmony in contemporary Asian urban culture. Further, with this experience, I will to discuss the existing estrangement and disharmony as a result of the differences in values systems among various nations. With these said, I will explain my creative ideas, and consider how to build the Asian character into my own creative work, and discover its compositional feature in contemporary Asian cities, and applying the cross-culture symbols of Asia. I will present scenario of everyday life while focusing on the estrangement and disharmony throughout my creativity.In my conclusion, I will convey my change of attitude of living in Asian cities, and my transition of viewing the grotesque to finding beauty. And lastly, I will discuss the issues I faced in my own creative work now and the prospective future. |
