With the unceasing advancement of the national high school new curriculum reform, both "The Outline of the Elementary Education Curriculum Reform (Trial) " and "The High School Curriculum Standard (Experimental) " have called for more accomplishments from teachers of the subject Chinese. Teachers should develop simultaneously with curricula, which is the important concept raised at the 8th New Curriculum Reform, the challenge facing all high school teachers, and an opportunity as well for their growth of professional development. Only by changing the educational concepts, taking an active part in education practice, improving teachers' professional ethical culture, can a teacher perform his teaching and research well, which also demands constant studies, rich knowledge, high qualities, and perfect application to modern education technology. Therefore, with the background of the curriculum reform, reforming and practicing rely largely on teachers' professional accomplishments. Then, what does "profession development" mean? What's teachers' current professional situation? How can they develop themselves professionally? So, this thesis focuses on the barrier factors to teachers' professional development through investigation into the present profession situation from teachers in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, professional developing objectives and fundamental accomplishments of teachers, and approaches to professional development of teachers in high schools by expounding the concepts "School Research" and "Action Research"...
