Guo Bingwen's idea of being balance in running a university was not which the one day and one night formed. It had several important origins : his individual experience of going to school and the fine tradition of Nanjing Higher Normal School. The idea was also vitally interrelated with the patterns of running a university in the U.S.A during he was studying abroad.This idea contained rich contents: the balance between well-rounded education and specialized education, the balance between humanistic education and science education, the balance between the investment in teaching staff and equipment and the balance between inside a country and outside a country.In order to construct his higher education theory, Guo bingwen was good at assurancing the idea in whole. Not being independent respectively, the "four balances" related mutually. If you make a general observation of Guo bingwen's idea of being balance in running a university, you can clearly find theses characteristics: society adaptability in training objective; completeness and rationality in educational content; coordination in software and hardware for running a school; wide vision in academic research.The meaning of Guo bingwen's idea of being balance in running a university was so profound that the idea made brilliant and historic contributions to Nanjing Higher Normal School and Southeast University. Southeast University soon became the first-class university in and abroad in several years. At the same time, educational progress also drove development of other universities in modern times in China. Brilliant rays in Guo bingwen's idea is still glittering so far and today's Chinese higher education is greatly enlightened by it.
