As one of the famous educators in our country in the early of20thcentury, PingWen Kuo made a great contribution to our country’s education career. When he wasthe president of Nanjing Higher Normal School and National Southeast University,He made a bold attempt to change the previous school-running mode, in which madesolid foundation for the development of Southeast University. In China, Ping WenKuo is the first one who received doctor’s degree at Columbia University’s teacherscollege, he also had rich experience in education theory. As former principal ofNanjing Higher Normal School and National Southeast University, Ping Wen Kuo hasmade a great education reform and exploration which made great contribution to therich managerial experience of Chinese university school-running mode. With hiswritings and other related works, this paper mainly summarized Ping Wen Kuo’sschool-running thoughts which implied in his education practice.This thesis mainly consists of seven parts: the ‘introduction’ part, the first partis‘Ping Wen Kuo’s life and education activities’,the second part ‘Four balances ofeducation policy’, the third part ‘Moral education,intellectual education and physicaleducation policy’, the forth part is ‘The development mode of the colleges anduniversities school-running thoughts’, the fifth part is ‘The management mode of thecolleges and universities school-running thoughts’, the sixth part ‘Ping Wen Kuo’scolleges and universities school-running bring us to think’.The ‘introduction’ part introduces the topic of this study cause and meaningtopics, with the relevant literature, making the collation and analysis on the relatedresearches about Ping Wen Kuo’s education thought, in order to pave the way for thefurther study.The first part discusses to the formulation of the higher school running conceptfrom the overall perspective of Ping Wen Kuo’s life experience. Starting with theexperience of his life and education, this paper teases out Ping Wen Kuo’s educationpractice which includes in Nanjing Higher Normal School, South East University and Chinese foreign education.The second part introduces the school policy of Ping Wen Kuo’s higher schoolrunning concept. Ping Wen Kuo summarized his school policy as a ‘balance’, which isthe balance of generalist and specialist, the balance of humanities and sciences, thebalance of faculty and equipment, the balance of domestic and international these fouraspects.The third part studies the related works and historical data, extracting Ping WenKuo’s education thought from his process of school-running, which include threeaspects,such as intellectual, physical and moral, at the same time expounds thecontents, methods and so on.The forth part introduces the development mode about application of normaluniversity which is embedded in the Ping Wen Kuo’s higher school running concept.In his perspective, normal school should be lodged in the university, which is affectedby two aspects: foreign experience and domestic situation, and analysis theconnotation.The fifth part mainly discusses the management mode of the school which isembedded in the Ping Wen Kuo’s higher school running concept. Democraticmanagement including ‘three system’, which means professor participate schoolaffairs management and ‘automatic’ which means students autonomy. Theestablishment of the school board includes the establishing background,the source ofthe school board members and its authority.This part is the last part of this paper. This part sums up the influence of PingWen Kuo’s higher school running concept, which based on analyzing the formerseveral parts.
