The reform of the new curricula has been widely carried out in senior one of every high school in Jiangsu Province since the September of 2005. It was emphasized in the new curricula that students should be equipped with the basic knowledge, basic skills and basic methods to deal with life long study. The new curricula demand that teachers should pay more attention to developing the positive attitudes towards study rather than only transmitting the knowledge. Based on the demands of the new curricula, the needs of the characteristics of students in senior one, the tendency of life-long education and the problems with basic education, and according to theories of constructivist and met cognition, this paper illustrates the practical significance of autonomous learning.By analyzing the teaching practice, the author notices that only though the autonomous learning in the teaching classroom, can students achieve their goals. The paper is set in the actual teaching practice in chemistry. The author carried out this research by analyzing the single case, investigating the teachers and students, referring to some literature related to this topic and so on. The paper pays special attention to how to train the students' interest in chemistry, how to form the positive attitude towards learning, how to strengthen the students' desire for study and how to motivate them to study autonomously. Also, the author pays attention to training students how to estimate themselves and how to obtain the right learning strategy. Combing the reform with teaching practice, the author did some research on how to teach chemistry scientifically and efficiently. Then the author drew a conclusion that it is possible for the students to meet the demands of the new auricular and learn chemistry positively and efficiently. At the same, students can study autonomously and master the learning strategies.
