The aim of studying English is to train the students'ability of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. In these five abilities,listening is the most important and difficult one to learn. In New Concept English, the author emphasized that we should not write the language that we have not read, we should not read the language that we have not spoken, we should not speak the language that we have not listened. Obviously, the way of listening through which we get the language information and language feeling is the basis of the basis in English studying. As an ability, understanding what others said in English is one of our teaching aim; as a learning strategy, listening is also the way to grasping English. Learning speaking, learning pronunciation also depend on listening. Listening is a necessary part of English testing, at the same time, it is the most difficult problem to students. We must pay enough attention to listening if we want to increase English teaching quality. This paper mainly explores the trainability of listening strategies and attempts to find out if the listening strategy training can really help improve students'listening ability.At the beginning of this study I made an investigation through questionnaires among students in Grade Four in Liaohe Oil Field Gaicai Middle School. It was found that there were no significant differences in the students'listening strategies. I chose two classes as the subjects of the study. They were Class One and Class Two. I chose Class Two as the experimental class and Class One as the control class. After that the author made a pretest of the two classes. The result showed that there were no significant differences between the two classes in the students'listening comprehension. When this was done, the author carefully chose five strategies. They are phonetics, speaking, pragmatics, note-taking and inferencing. The period for strategies training was 18 weeks. Usually one strategy was trained for one week. At the end of the study, I made a posttest in the two classes and then analyzed their listening comprehension scores.The results of the study show that the students in the experimental class outperformed the students in the control class in the listening comprehension. Therefore, we can conclude that listening strategy training can improve the students'listening comprehension. What's more, the results based on the questionnaire also show that listening strategy training could enhance the students'awareness of listening strategies.
