The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among job characteristics, job burnout and job performance of Middle and Primary School Teachers in Mainland China. That's to say, it was intended to prove that job characteristics were predictive to job performance. Furthermore, this study aimed to find out that job burnout could mediate the relationships between job characteristics and job performanceThis study was composed of two parts: The first part was to construct and revise the scales. It was based on the interview study and previous study as well as the principles of psychological testing. The revised scales include: (1) Job Characteristics Scale for Middle and Primary School Teachers. (2) Job-Burnout Scale for Middle and Primary School Teachers. (3) Job Performace Scale for Middle and Primary School Teachers; The second part was to establish the predictive model of job performance. Data was collected from samples of Middle and Primary School Teachers and the procedures of data processing were as follows: To analyze the relationships between job characteristics, job burnout and job performance by building up Structural Equation Modeling; To explore the mediating effect of job burnout by using path analysis and hierarchical regression analysis; To study whether subjects' characteristics can effect job characteristics, job burnout, job performance by using independence t test and analysis of variance.The main conclusions of this study were:1) The Job Characteristics Scale (JCS) in this study was measured by four aspects, job autonomy, job variety, job importance and job devotion; The reliability and validity of all subscales were good; The JCS can be used for the study about job characteristics of middle and primary school teachers2) The revised JBS-T in this study included three subscales, namely: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and diminished personal accomplishment; The reliability and validity of all subscales were good. The scale can be used for studies.3) The Job Performance Scale (JPS) in this study was measured by five aspects, teaching behavior, teaching validity, teaching value, job development, job morale; the JPS can be used for the study about job performance of middle and primary School Teachers4) Job characteristics, job burnout can predicted job performance.5) Job burnout could mediate the relationships between job Characteristics and job performance.6) Sex, teaching experience; whether he or she has child, post, teaching subject, education level, whether he or she was in charge of the class, the classes which he or she teach, the number of teaching hours per week, and which area the school can affect job characteristics, job burnout and job performance.
