The Basic Situation Of The Adolescent Life Stress And Deviant Behavior In Macau

In this modern society, life stress exists almost in everybody's life.Under the rapid growth of the economy and the effect of the globalizationof the world, the traditional values and cultures are under challenge. Thus,life stress, as what was common only in adult society, seemed becomingcommon in adolescent group. This immature group of people may havedifficulty to adjust their values to this fast growing society by showingsome deviant behaviors, and that is what we concern about. In this study,635 high school students in Macao became our target group and themeasures of "Life Experience Scale" and "Behavior Inventory" conductedby Ms. Jachi Chen are adopted. The main purpose of this study is toexplore the circumstance of their life stress and the deviant behaviorthrough the questionnaires. Finally, the results of this study are comparedto that of an ex-student, Jachi Chen, in Taiwan, 2002. The results show thatboth of Taiwan adolescents and Macao adolescents face the similar lifestress. Among all, "Academic Stress" is the highest level in both of the twoplaces, and those coming up in sequences are: "Self-Esteem &Self-Expectation", "Peer Relationships" and "Relationships with DifferentGenders". The Taiwan adolescents are more stressful than the Macao adolescents in "Academic Stress", "Peer Relationships", and "the wholeLife Stress". But the Macao adolescents have more pressure in"Self-Esteem & Self-Expectation" than the Taiwan adolescents. They feelthe same pressure while facing the "Relationships with Different Genders".On the other hand, among the deviant behaviors, "Disobeying Behavior" isthe highest level in both countries. The second one is the"Crime-committing Behavior". However, the results show that Taiwanadolescents are more serious in "Disobeying Behavior" while Macaoadolescents are more serious in "Crime-committing Behavior" and "thewhole Deviant Behavior".
