Gym undertaking in Jilin province needs to achieve development, athletes from Jilin province are devoted to obtain the first gold medal in Olympic games, and the Winter Asian Games will be held in Changchun in 2007. All these require a large number of well-qualified gymnastic specialists who can adapt to the social development. As the important supporting force of the gymnastic undertaking in Jilin province, high educational institutes of Jilin province take the responsibility for cultivating physical education teachers, carrying out scientific research and physical training. The cultivation of qualified athletic talents depends greatly on teachers. The key point is that the colleges and departments of physical education should have well-organized teams of teachers with abundant members, high qualification, vigor and energy. Therefore, the investigation of the present situation and countermeasures of colleges and departments of physical education in Jilin province is one theoretical and practical issue that our gymnastic functional institutions are concerned about.By using the methods of literature, questionnaire, interview and investigation, and mathematics statistics, the author analyzes the present situation of physical education teachers in colleges and departments of physical education in Jilin province and puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions.The present situation of physical teachers in colleges and department of physical education in Jilin province is: the number of the physical education teachers can not meet the need for physical education teaching. Most of them own bachelor degree while only 20% of them have obtained master degree. A large number of teachers graduate from the same university. This results in the unitary graduation origin of the teachers. As for the academic title, the teaching team is mostly composed of junior teachers and the senior teachers take low proportion. Teachers'teaching capability and standard are satisfactory, but they take heavy working burden. They re enthusiastically engaged in the teaching career with high socialistic spirits. However they make fewer efforts to undertake scientific research because their impetus for writing papers is simply for acquiring academic title. Besides, the teachers have been being lower paid and seldom get access to continuous education. 71% of them have never received continuous education.The countermeasures and suggestions are: the functional institutions should be clearly aware of the new characteristics of the construction of physical education teachers team in our country and the diverse developing directions. They must intensify the efforts to increase the numbers of teachers gradually, to improve teachers'qualification and teaching standard by various means, to enhance their scientific researching capability, to practice effective and efficient teacher training program, to raise their income, and to mobilize their enthusiasm for work and research. All these will help improve and perfect the construction of physical education teachers.
