Many experts at home and abroad have done lots of researches in vocabulary learning strategies for more than ten years, hoping to help English learners grasp more vocabulary quickly. Most of the studies are conducted at universities and colleges while few are about senior high school students. So, the author has studied the following questions based on the ideas of vocabulary learning strategies of O'Malley and Chamot:1. What ideas do senior high school students have on English vocabulary learning?2. What are the English vocabulary learning strategies that senior high school students have been using?3. Do high-level students and low-level students have different English vocabulary learning ideas and use different English vocabulary learning strategies?4. What relations do English vocabulary learning strategies have with English vocabulary learning?This research is based on the sample of 105 students coming from Class2 and Class 9 of Grade 1 in Taizhou No. 2 Senior High School. Before training, a questionnaire was made to know about the target students' opinions on how they learn English words and how they use English vocabulary learning strategies. At the same time an English vocabulary test was given to tell high-level students from low-level students. After the students of Class2, Grade 1 were trained in English vocabulary learning strategies for 6 months, another English vocabulary test was given to the 105 students. The results of the two tests have shown the necessity and the effectiveness of training for English vocabulary learning strategies.So this research tells us that training senior high school students to use English vocabulary learning strategies can help them form proper ideas on English vocabulary learning and know how to use English vocabulary learning strategies properly. It is very helpful for senior high school students to use more vocabulary learning strategies and use them more often, which will contribute to their English vocabulary learning.
