Seen from the present situation of our people's scientific literacy, it would be a fundamental block in carrying out our strategy of invigorating the country through science, technology and education as well as the strategy of sustainable development. Chemistry teaching in high school period aims at improving students' general capacity and disposition in science. To our high school students, the general capacity and disposition in science refers to the basic character and ability, which was formed during the process of acquiring knowledge, to adapt to the development of the society and perfect our human beings. This kind of ability could hardly be "taught". Our teaching should insist in student-centered method, which means we should fully develop students' interests in learning, and give them more chances that enable them to look into a problem themselves, study independently and at the same time, use their hands and brains. During their study, they are forced to find outs problems and then try to solve them. All these mentioned could only be achieved by combining chemistry teaching and students' own demands together. This article is composed of 5 parts. Part 1 has discussed the connotation of scientific literacy, marshaled the recent reports on people's present scientific literacy and analyzed about some materials of student's scientific literacy in grade one and grade two in our school. Part 2 and part 3 has made a summary on the theory and function of developing students' scientific literacy in the process of chemistry and life teaching. Part 4 proposed some strategies on how to develop the students' scientific literacy during chemistry and life teaching on the basis of the theoretical discuss. It also has designed some relevant teaching cases and studied the teaching practice by means of chemistry stories, scientific investigation, role play and debates. Part 5 is the conclusion and consideration. Based on the study of practice, we think that it is necessary and practicable to develop students' scientific literacy in the chemistry and life teaching.
