This study focuses on the performance of 5 to 6-year-old children's free dance by the methods of observation, interview and survey. It gives the results both by the quantitative and qualitative analysis. The main contents are the description of the basic types, the summary description of the general characteristics, the description of the process of creation, the differences and the discussion of the factors which may impact the performance of 5 to 6-year-old children's free dance.There are two references called the ability of the free dance and the attitude to jion in the free dance, according which the performance of 5 to 6-year-old children's free dance can be divided into types of enjoyment, task-based and random. More than half children show features of task-based type. Nearly one-third of children belong the type of enjoyment, and just a small part of children show characteristics of the random type.The general characteristics of the performance of 5 to 6-year-old children's free dance are based on the features of the dance movements, emotion expressions and the space composition.The dance movements include the forms, rhythm and sources. Dance movements' figure contains the imitation of things like animals and plants, and abstract shapes like triangle and rotundity. Most dance movements' horizontal positions are "the middle position". Modern dance gestures are the main dance movements' postures in their free dance. At the same time, posture elements of other dance types such as classical dance, folk dance, and ballet are also founded. "Mechanical rhythm" and the primary "respiratory rhythm" are the main rhythm of dance movements. The sources of dance movements include the imitation of natural flora and fauna and things in life, the mobilization of children's former experience of dance movements, simple dance movements which according to the development and excavation of body rhythm or excavation of human's inherent potential of movement. There are three types of the emotion expressions of free dance. The type of emotional reaction is the most, followed by the performance of the images or context. The type of story depiction is very rare. The space arrangements of free dance characterized as followed factors. First, the sense of stage space is poor but the capacity in dealing with the collective space is enough. Second, symmetrical balance is the main method of screen composition in free dance. Third, the plane line formed by dance fit the music in a high level. Dance movements' horizontal positions and posture space are restrained by the inertia.The creative process of 5 to 6-year-old children's free dance is a process that transforming inner experience into a performance of free dance. It contains the music appreciation and experience (the premise of creative), the intent of express the intention (the key of creative), the design of dance (the special session), and the performance of dance (the results of creative).The performance of 5 to 6-year-old children's free dance is connected with several factors such as the system of class management and psychological atmosphere of the class, interest of dance, family atmosphere of dance, and so on. The related factors about kindergarten, family and social cultural, children's physical and psychological characteristics are likely related to the performance of 5 to 6-year-old children's free dance.The performance of 5 to 6-year-old children's free dance not only shows the potential of children dance (especially the potential of dance creative), but also exposes a number of problems about children dance teaching in kindergarten. The researcher conceives a new way of teaching children dance which called "teaching children dance full with creativity". It is a way that assimilate advantages of creative dance teaching such as help children create their own dance movements by excavating dance elements. It is also a way that could combine the topic curriculum model in kindergarten. This new way of teaching children dance has possibility of giving children the full play to their dance potential, of promoting the development of children's creativity and the formation of good personality and sociality.
