Reading is an essential skill for foreign language students. As a chief means of input in English language learning, English reading occupies an important place in the aspects of skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Therefore, with the development of information society, reading is regarded as the most important way in gaining information. Although we spend much time and make many efforts on reading, the results of teaching are not satisfactory. Teachers spend more efforts on words, sentences and grammar than in guiding the students to know how to read. Students do not know much about reading strategies and how to use them. The main purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the strategy training on English reading. The results of present study shows that integrating training of reading strategies into classroom teaching in the junior middle school is practical and effective. Strategies training can help students find pleasure in English reading and develop their learning autonomy. The thesis consists of five parts.
