Along with continuous preference by Chinese people for gender of newborns since 1980s, the findings from the Fifth National Census show that sex ratio of newborns has been up to 116.9, 9.9% more than the normal sex ratio. Thus, the influence from such severe imbalance in terms of above ratio on Chinese society has become not only a theme being studied in demography but also an important theme in sociology.This essay lists large amount of analyzed official data based on the research in documentation and briefs on history, present state and characteristics of sex ratio of newborns. Analysis is performed of factors in culture, technology, policy and economy having led to the current imbalanced sex ratio, and of the influence by the long-term imbalance on Chinese society in the past and at present. Subsequently, the danger is predicted, which will possibly occur in future. Finally, a proposal is put forward to lay necessary public policy as an effective solution to the imbalance. In order to vividly present the significant hazardous nature for the imbalance and the critical points to harness, the existing problems and measures taken in Taiwan, South Korea and India, etc. where the same sex ratio is extraordinarily imbalanced are compared in the essay. The results achieved through the above study are purposely applied to learning current state in China and hunting for corresponding solution.
