As the materializing products of the course, teaching materials have an important status and role in personnel training, accumulation and dissemination of scientific and cultural knowledge, socializing the individual and developing students. Teaching materials reform is an important component of teaching reform, which at the center position in the education reform. Based on Chinese specific national conditions, this paper through the analysis of the U.S. high school teaching material "Chemistry: concepts and applications", absorb the essence to provide certain enlightenment for the Chinese chemical teaching materials compilation to optimize the content design.This paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter based on the analysis of domestic and foreign literature of the chemical teaching materials, shows clearly that the reason and significance of selecting this topic. With the development of society, the central position of the chemistry subjects in the increasingly clear in science. The developments of chemical teaching materials' function determine on the building of them must be an eternal process. The 20th century chemistry curriculum innovation, which is led by the United States, provides us a good opportunity for further study and optimization of the chemical teaching materials in China.On the basis of summing up analysis methods and theories of appraising domestic and international science teaching material, the second chapter builds a basic analysis method of senior high school chemistry teaching material. It not only points that teaching material analysis should be guided by systematic methodology, which includes the systemic view of part-whole and based on the basic theories of the modern courses and constructivism, but also establishes the structure and key elements of teaching material and elucidates the main part of this study.The 3rd chapter based on the basic analysis method of high school chemistry teaching material, concretely introduces and analyzes the knowledge structure and contents of the U.S. high school chemistry teaching material.The 4th chapter first has analyzed the physical elements of the teaching material and the appearance, graphs, texts, language and other aesthetic elements of the teaching material; and then analyzes the design features of knowledge element from knowledge contents, knowledge processes and knowledge evaluation, which is the deepest level and the most important element in the teaching material. Finally, based on the design characteristics of the materials, summarizes the specific highlight of STSE education themes in "Chemistry: concepts and applications".According to science content standards grades 9-12, the 5th chapter has analyzed the feasibility and validity of "Chemistry: concepts and applications", the basic tropism of the curriculum theory from this textbook, and the organic unity of discipline tropism and integration tropism.Based on the analysis of the main case "Chemistry: concepts and applications" and the conditions of Chinese chemical teaching materials, this paper has put forward some suggestions as following:1. We should Emphasize students' understanding and applications of the core chemical concepts, make chemistry walk into the lives of students, excite students gradually understand the corrections of chemistry and society, technique, environment, and other subjects.2. We should enrich study materials and graphic design, design true informative contexts, pay attention to contact the students' knowledge and social reality, focus on solving practical problems so that students feel the worth of chemistry in practice and arts, organic integrate students' knowledge learning, capacity-training and emotional experience, enhance students interested in studying chemistry.3. We should highlight the teaching functions of chemistry experiments, focus on training students' scientific methods and scientific thinking skills through the experiments, embody the diversity of student learning, and encourage students to study by self-learning, cooperative learning and inquiry learning.4. For the design of teaching materials, we should comprehensively consider the correction of students, discipline and society, look in the dialectic view on the disciplines and comprehensive of knowledge courses. Chemical knowledge should be designed to minimize single and certain content, and strive to reflect the richness, relevance and uncertainty of knowledge, achieve a vivid and process of student learning.The innovative works include:1. Based on summing up analysis methods and theories of appraising domestic and international science teaching material, the paper builds a basic analysis method of senior high school chemistry teaching material.2. The paper concretely introduces and analyzes the knowledge structure and contents of "Chemistry: concepts and applications", summarizes its specific highlight of STSE education themes.3. The paper has analyzed the feasibility and validity, the basic tropism of the curriculum theory, and organic unity of discipline tropism and integration tropism of "Chemistry: concepts and applications".The main study methods of the paper: literature, cases, comparison, statistics and so on.
