This paper focus on the cultivation of students in current social work education. Since the implementation of the reform and opening up policy in 1978, because of institutional transition and social transformation, there are growing number of social problems in China. The social work profession should play an active role in solving China's social problems and improving Chinese society. By addressing a wide range of issues for individuals, families, communities and groups, social workers can provide strong support for the transformation of traditional to modern in China. In recent years, the Central Government proposed to build a harmonious society, and proposed to build a large social work personnel. The education of social work in China has ushered in opportunities for development.However, since its restoration and reconstruction in the late 1980s, the development of the education of social work in China did not successful. The education of social work, scale of which has been greatly expanded with the expansion policy of university in recent years, is still far from norm. It has a lot of problems, such as the ambiguous educational idea, the fuzzy goals of education, the disordered training model and the poor quality of education. For these reasons, it is difficult to cultivate qualified social workers. In response to the requirements of building a large social work personnel, this article based on the discussion of educational idea and training model of the social work education, points out that the education of social work in China should choose the generalized education pattern. The author hopes that the generalized education pattern can be used to guide the standardization of our social work education building.This paper is constituted of four parts so as to demonstrate this issue. First of all, by reviewing the history of the education of social work in China, part one points out that it is different from the other countries in the development of the unique path, and that why it has been expanded rapidly in recent years. Next, part one pictures the actuality and deficiencies of the education of social work in China. According to the problems of social work education and the systematical reviewing of the definitions of generalized education, specialist education, general education, professional education, generalist social work education, specialist social work education, part two indicates that a appropriate educational idea must be established, so as to guide the operation of social work education in China. In the third part, after the analysis of the following five factors: the knowledge system of social work, the development stages of social work education, the socio-cultural, the demand for social workers and the education levels, this paper proofs of current social work education for our country to take the generalized education pattern, rather than the mode of specialist education. In the last part, some suggestions and countermeasures which can improvement our training mode of social work education are given by the author.
