New elementary education curriculum has already entered the stage of practice all around in our country. New curriculum has had significant reformation in the field of course target, function, content, structure, implement, evaluation, management and so on. The reformation must be performed by the teacher in teaching practice ultimately. The key to the course reforms therefore lies in a teacher, so it is necessary to estimate the Physical education teachers' professional quality again and provide some method to improve the physical education teachers' professional quality.First, the background of the new curriculum is introduced, and new characteristics of the new curriculum are analyzed, then the new request and challenge to physical education teachers is made clear. According to the challenge that physical education teachers face, some investigation, analysis and research on the professional quality of physical education teachers in middle school in Zhengzhou city is made. The result tells us: theZhengzhou city middle school physical education teachers have some problems and insufficiency in education science knowledge, working out and putting teaching programme into practice, designing teaching, estimating teaching, organizing and managing a classroom, applying teaching method rationally, scientific research, applying modern teaching technology and self-study. These will affect on the new course. According to these problems, provide some rational suggestion, hope that, it can be useful for improving the physical education teachers' professional quality in middle school in Zhengzhou city and training physical education teachers in college.
