At the turning of the centuries, the new curriculum revolution has been run in our country while"The Geography Curriculum Criterion of the Whole-day Impulsive Education"was established, which emphasizes the idea of facing the students, the life and the society ; the learning model of encouraging students to participate actively, explore and discover, communicate and cooperate as well as the experiences and learning interest of the students. It also tries to change the phenomenon of depending on textbooks too much, receptive learning, memorizing and training mechanically in the geography education courses. This to some extent reflects the post-modern curriculum ideas. Mr. Zhong Qiquan has once taken"text and conversation: transition of the teaching regulation"as the theme to point out that"There will not be teaching without conversation"and"Language is the media of human's communication and cooperation."Moreover he pointed out the new teaching idea transcending the transitive teaching regulation: teaching is conversation; what the conversation needs is text; the teaching process is the process of"producing text, text, accepting text".The nature of geography teaching is: the geography teaching is directed by teachers; students is active and volunteered; teachers'direction and students'self-control are the two sides of the teaching activity. And the theoretical basic of the revolution of curriculum and teaching reflects some ideas of Doll W. E.'s"curriculum matrix"which include the"4R"(richness, recursion, relation, rigor).This paper tries to explain the idea of"curriculum matrix"of Doll W. E., who has been the representative of the Post-modern Curriculum, and the value that could be learned from for geography education of our country's middle school. And therefore, it will make the geography teachers to emphasize venturing individuality, creative spirit, innovative ability and all-round ability, so that they may treasure the human spirit, the proceeding and performing aims of geography curriculum, so as to the communication and cooperation between teachers and students.The paper hopes to help the geography teachers to renew the ideas at the deep level. Through explaining some meaningful value of the"curriculum matrix"of Doll W. E. for the geography teaching, the teachers may have theoretical basis and wider views in order to serve renewing the ways of geography teaching. Furthermore, it also hopes to offer some theoretical supports for widening the contents and methods of students'geography learning.Through the study toward today's middle school geography class teaching in Shanghai while paralyzing the , the paper has reached the meanings of what today's geography class teaching could learn from Doll W. E.'s"curriculum matrix". And they includes the following points: to establish new rules of geography class which is beyond any mode; to rebalance the geography class teaching; to reach the rigor of geography teaching; and to establish the geography class teaching which may not only contain but expand as well. In order to accomplishing all of the above, one geography teacher need to handle the features of geography classes; for instance, to break the traditionally logic geography teaching order, to establish some kind of initially harmonious and multi-layers geography class rules, and therefore a certain new geography class rules can be made. And the other practical methods will be explained in the paper in detail.
