With the intense competition between counties, the talents have occupied more important position. People have paid great attention and placed great expectations to higher education. Since 1999, the gross enrollment rate has climbed all the way, and reached 24.2% in 2009, with the total size of higher education up to 29.79 million people, which ranks first in the world. The scale of higher education inflates suddenly, the constructions in the campus become newer, the disciplines increase day by day, the administration also renovate. But, behind this prosperity, the university is actually experiencing resource crisis, quality crisis, institutional crisis, and so on.Based on the observation and the meditation of higher education, the author collects massive material and takes analysis, the induction and the reorganization on the material in order to grasp the concealed worry in higher education as comprehensively as possible. Then the thesis introduces the theory of involution. Judged by the theory, when it has developed to a certain stage, higher education can not develop as usual, and starts to intertwine and complicate inside. It cannot make a breakthrough and enter to a new state. Involution has become the mechanism that restricts the development of higher education in our county.The main body of the thesis indicates the involution of higher education in three aspects:the scale involution, the sub-discipline involution and organizational involution. There is contradiction between the scale's rapid expansion and the relative resources'insufficiency in higher education which makes the quality of higher education reduced. The scale involution manifest in the quality of teachers decline, lack of innovative ability of students, and popular concept of community awareness of inadequate on quality of mass higher education. The over-differentiation of discipline and unreasonable the specialized establishment will dissever the connection between the knowledge of different disciplines. Teachers have difficulty in crossing boundaries of interdisciplinary and solving difficult problem. Students can not make subjects knowledge in context. With the expansion of the scale of higher education, Universities set new agencies to expand its functions which resulted in large agencies, redundant faculty and inefficient work. Involution occurs within the organization. Then in the fifth part of the thesis gives some suggestions as follows, higher Education may make a transform from scale expansion to quality improvement, strengthen the contact among various disciplines, and get administration away in the agency.The thesis uses the theory of involution to analyze the problems in higher education, tries to describe the higher education's condition on the whole, and has a more comprehensive understanding to the higher education. In order to Find out a way to get involution away from the overall situation, and make higher education get rid of crisis and develop healthily.
