Since the development of instructional design in 1990s, with the formation of the Complexity Science and the rise of Constructivist Philosophy trend, instructional design researchers had began to question and reflect on the traditional view of instructional design and its methods based on "Atomism". They believed that the intricate teaching activities were turned to be a scheduled, mechanical and simplified design process under the Atomism's control. Under the influence of the instructional design concept, learning tasks were also divided to points and practiced and led to the different mental representation. They made the isolated fragment of knowledge acquisition can not correctly applied in real life, then the learning transfer is low. The holistic task design is the scientific design viewpoint based on the holistic epistemology. It is in pursuit of integrity, complexity in learning, it pursues teaching the"holistic scientific rationality"of instructional design, and it is to improve the professional performance of students and develop the professional capacity of students for the purpose.Based on the theory of Holism, this article draws on the foreign successful research experience and method of learning task design and selects complex task from real-life situation as a design object. According to the main design steps of 4C/ID and combined with cognitive task analysis methods, it focuses on the development of higher-order thinking skills and the skills of solving complex problems. This paper is mainly to solve the following problems:1. Define the Complex Learning. Learning science is to study the issue be placed in a multi-disciplinary context of such an ambitious study, which focuses on learning complexity, and the emergence of the complexity paradigm provides a new epistemology and methodology for the study and research. In a new research content of learning science and complexity paradigm attributes of learning research, this article give complex learning to a new definition combined with the real learning, complex cognitive skills, problem solving and so on.2. Systematic the Holistic Task Design. With the changes of instructional design concept, the current learning tasks design tends to focus on authentic learning tasks, but because of the complexity of these tasks, the traditional design approach atomistic-based is called into question. Holism is the theory about whole. Can we study the learning task design that be placed in the framework of Holism? Through analysis of the formation and development context of the holistic design viewpoint, the paper systematically summarizes the analysis and design process of the holistic task under the influence of Holism.3. Analyze the practice model of the holistic task design. At present, the representative expert who has a systematic study on the design of complex learning theory and practice only is van Merri?nboer in Netherlands. In his textbooks of instructional design, he had systematically attention to the learner's complex cognitive skills training and proposed the 4C/ID design model based on the holistic task facing "complex learning", which is currently the best practice model of holistic task design. This paper will systematically analyze the theory base of 4C/ID, the core elements and the design steps.4. Design holistic task desig case face to complex learning. At present, although the 4C/ID model is the most systematic design model of holistic task design for complex learning, the domestic haven't achievement cases on this aspect. Based on the holistic task design viewpoint, this paper will select the authentic and complex learning tasks form life or work ,use the main steps of 4 C/ID design models, combine with learning task analysis and design a teaching case of the holistic task design.
