With the rapid development of micro-electronics technology and EDA (Electronic Design Automatic) technology, the performance of FPGA has been improved very much, and the design of FPGA has been developed to a new level. The design of embedded system based FPGA makes the modern electronic design more flexible, which example is the System on Programmable Chip (SOPC) named Nios Ⅱ soft-core processor system that is designed by Alterta Corporation. Nios Ⅱ processor system attracts designers' attention by its characteristics, such as flexible design, programmable hardware and software, abundant IP provided, and so on. But the application and the study in the field are little in our country. In the paper, the Nios Ⅱ processor system will be attempted to apply to the ultrasonic diagnostic system.In the paper a Nios Ⅱ control system is designed in FPGA, which achieves controlling the forepart system in the color Doppler ultrasonic diagnostic system. Firstly, the solution of the Nios Ⅱ system in the color Doppler ultrasonic diagnostic hardware system is designed on the basis of the system function definition, and each part of the solution is explained. Secondly, the communication mechanism between the main processor and Nios Ⅱ assistant processor system is studied, and the function of the communication circuit is verified. Subsequently, on the basis of the study about the default start-up mode about Nios Ⅱ system, the start-up solution adapting to the system is presented, and then the solution is validated on a evaluating circuit board. Finally, a set of system control bus that is used to control the forepart system is designed, on the basis of which the system bus controller is completed, and the controller is verified by building a Nios Ⅱ system simulating bench.
