At present, China has accelerated its urbanization process. Under the dual pressure of urbanization and motorization, TOD mode-based land development has set off a public transit-oriented urban development wave in China, with its ability to effectively alleviate the urban space and traffic pressure, control urban sprawl, efficiently use land resources, improve the environment and so on. But in reality, the problem is that TOD mode isn’t a development principle that applies to all. It remains to be specifically studied according to the actual situation of various cities in China.Systematically sorting out the basis for TOD theories, this paper summed up the strengths and weaknesses in domestic and foreign TOD mode development and analyzed the role that TOD mode plays in Chinese urban development through literature research and collection of relevant studies both at home and abroad. Based on the development characteristics of different regions in China, it probed the specific TOD mode to China and defined the TOD implementation standards. Besides, according to the difficulties arising out of the implementation it presented practical guiding suggestions and countermeasures on urban land utilization and development under Chinese TOD mode. The paper concluded with the example of the China-Swiss eco-city in Kun Shan and Wuxi, analyzing the practices and exploration of TOD-oriented land utilization and development mode in China.
