In the recent years, China’s insurance industry has got huge development under the background of the international financial crisis, among which professional insurance intermediary companies has sprung up rapidly. Although the new professional insurance intermediary member is booming, there still exists many problem. The managers of insurance intermediary companies began to think that what kind of qualities a good insurance intermediary member should have. So exploring the competency model of insurance intermediary members becomes very necessary and urgent.This study adopts the method of consulting literature materials, panel discussion,behavioral event interview, questionnaire investigation and statistical analysis to explore the qualities that the best insurance intermediary member should have and build the insurance intermediary agent competency model. The results of this study are as follows:(1)Using the method of literature review, panel discussion and behavioral event interview to generate the competency questionnaire of insurance intermediary members. The study got 84 effective samples and then conducted data analysis. In the independent sample t-test, the differentiation of each item is good; In the item and the total correlation analysis, the correlation coefficient between item 2 and the total score is less than 0.4 as well as item 16, so these two items are deleted; In the questionnaire reliability test, the overall internal consistency coefficient is 0.96, which is obviously greater than 0.80. So the reliability is good.(2) The formal testing got 405 effective samples of measured data. In the exploratory factor analysis, the KMO value is 0.96,which is greater than 0.80. So it is suitable for factor analysis. There are five factors whose characteristics of the root is greater than 1. The cumulative variance contribution rate is 61.05%, which is within the acceptable range. Then we got the competency model of the insurance intermediary member which contains 5 factors, including customer service,professional ability, interpersonal communication and trust, work attitude, andachievement oriented. The study used AMOS21.0 confirmatory factor analysis for competency model of the insurance intermediary member. The index data are greater than 0.8 and fitting effect is acceptable.The competency model of the insurance intermediary member built up by this study has very important practical guiding significance in the recruitment, staff training, performance evaluation, compensation management and human resource allocation for the insurance intermediary company. At the same time, this study will enrich the theoretical research of the insurance intermediary member and will provide reference for other industries of the related research.
