Since the 1990s, with the global trend of financial deregulation, economic globalization and new technology development, competitions in the global financial markets become more and more fierce. Faced with the challenges, in order to raise risk-resisting and profit-earning abilities, a world-wide wave of Merger & Acquisition (M & A) swept across the global financial industry, which developed some "financial giants" in the world .It is significant to get in-depth knowledge of the essence and characteristics of this wave of M & A, which will let us feel the pulse of development of the foreign banking industry, and further, consider about the developing strategies of our banking industry after entering WTO.This thesis, through the study of the theory and background of this world-wide wave of M & A,and analysis of its way and process, is intended to make a preliminary discussion of the developing tendency of the global banking industry. Further, this thesis, I hope, can provide beneficial theoretical support for how to make resource allocation and re-arrangement of our banking Industry under the competition pressure after entering WTO. At the same time , relevant suggestions to different situations are also given in the thesis. The wave of M & A in the global financial industry is approaching us. To take the challenges, we should take the opportunity to adjust the structure of our financial industry and promote the M & A of our financial institutions gradually and steadily, so as to keep the continuous development of and win an advantageous position for our financial industry in the environment of global competitions.
