As the increasing amount of trade in the world, people from different countries with various cultural backgrounds have more and more connections. Meanwhile, many international companies are trying to explore bigger markets outside of its own country and also looking for cheaper manufacturing materials in order to be more competitive.The thesis is focusing on how cultural differences affect management of enterprises and organization. Besides a summary of major theories on managing across cultures, it also includes surveys results from several international companies to gain new thoughts from them.It is divided into three parts. Introduction covers the intention of this thesis; then the first part is the review of the state of the arts, and presents major ideas related to managing/working across cultures and it also mentions recent thoughts about this topic from managers who work in international companies and have experiences on managing across cultures; the second part illustrates three international companies, The Dow Chemical Company , Intel Corporation and Hai-er Group, to show how they manage cultural differences when they explore overseas market; Then the third part, which is also the most important part of the thesis, talks about the differences between Chinese companies and outstanding international companies on managing across cultures. And how all the theories, examples and personal interview results mentioned before are going to help our Chinese companies to explore more outside of China. In conclusion, culture differences do matter when organizations and companies have diverse talents pool. Whether to deal with culture differences rightly is highly related to the success of companies and organizations when they explore markets abroad. And the same applies to Chinese companies. It will be very helpful if Chinese leaders start to notice and learn about management across cultures when they want to grow internationally.
